Important List Building Words You Need to Know
As with any new skill, list building comes with its own language. When I first started marketing online, and had to start my own list, I actually tried to write the software to do it myself…and that was only after thinking I could do it manually from Outlook.
Well, I’m glad I realized quickly that those approaches would never work.
But when I began using an email service provider, I did find that I had a lot of new words to learn. So let me make this part of your list building education easy for you, and just lay out for you the words you’ll need to k now.
List — It’s what it sounds like, though what you may not k now is that a mailing list really only has to have one important element: the email address. Everything else is optional.
Email Service Provider — A company that manages your list for you, that stores the database, makes the opt-in forms for you (see below), and sends out the email messages for you. Popular ESPs for internet marketers are www.AweberAutoresponder.com, www.ConstantContact.com, and www.IContact.com.
Opt-In — Refers to the process of subscribing to a list. You will hear the phrases “subscribe to a list” and “opt into a list” used interchangeably. Read more
The Money is in the List
If you’ve been learning internet marketing at all, there’s one thing that you most certainly have heard…
‘The Money is in the list”
But what does that mean, really?
Here’s the whole “list” thing, in a nutshell.
When we talk about lists, what we’re talking about is a list of email addresses, usually also with names. You build your list by offering something for free to your website’s visitors, and in exchange you give something to those who sign up.
So, for example, let’s say you’ve got a website selling an ebook about weight loss for Brides-to-be. There are lots of things you could offer to visitors for free.
* The first chapter
* Four easy waist-slimming exercises to help you fit into your wedding dress
* How to survive your own wedding reception without gaining weight
* How to make your own wedding veil ebook
…and on and on. The idea, no matter which one you pick, is to somehow induce your visitor to buy your ebook.
By and large, it’s far easier to give something away for free than it is to sell something. So what you’ll find is that maybe 1% of your website visitors would buy your ebook. But maybe 20% of your visitors will sign up for your free offer.
That means you’ve got 20 times more people on your mailing list than if you only built your list from your customers. Now, in my experience, you might actually sell to a fourth of the people on your mailing list.
So magically, just by adding a well-crafted list, you might discover that you’re selling to %5 of you r visitors instead of just 1%.
And that’s going to make a HUGE difference in your bottom line.
Now, there are lots of people who think that they’ll actually lose sales by not asking for the sale right from the start. But I promise you that this is usually not true.
Mostly, people buy from other people that they know, like and trust. Having a mailing list, where your visitors get to experience you and your helpfulness first-hand helps them to know, like and trust you.
This month in the coaching club, we’re focusing on List Building. My ebook, “Making List Money” will be ready to download at the end of this week, a few last minute tweeks were needed.
Also, this week, we’ll be doing our first list-building webinar. I’ll be teaching you the basics of making money with lists. So be sure to register for the webinar. It’s this Thursday at 12 Noon PST, 3pm EST. Here’s the registration link:

Google Adwords: Truly the Best Thing About Adwords
Over the last few weeks, we’ve been talking about all the great things about Google Adwords. For example…
Adwords Traffic starts almost immediately after setting it up.
Adwords costs are very controllable because you set the maximum cost per click and daily budget.
Adwords Traffic is extremely targeted because you select the keywords you want to be found for.
With some time and experience, you can significantly drop your costs for your Adwords ads down to a nickel or a penny for some keywords.
All of that makes Adwords a VERY attractive way to get traffic to your site. But there’s one other Adwords feature that, if you know about it and use it, is even more important. Read more

All of that makes Adwords a VERY attractive way to get traffic to your site. But there’s one other Adwords feature that, if you know about it and use it, is even more important.
Controlling your costs is one thing, but if the costs you control still result in your losing money on each click then there’s no point to advertising with Google. But Google has a feature called “Conversion Tracking” that does something very wonderful.
Conversion Tracking, once set up, will tell you if you are actually making money on your Google Ads. It sounds like Magic, doesn’t it? But it’s not, and here’s how it works.
First, you’ll switch on “conversion tracking” in your account. It’s on your account settings page.
Then, Google will ask you a few questions about what kinds of conversions you want to measure. For example, you’ll indicate if you’re tracking “leads” (opt-ins to your list) or if you are tracking sales.
If you are tracking sales, you’ll also want to indicate how much each sale is worth. Now, if you only sell one product, then just enter in the price of the product. If your prices change from item to item, you can do a little bit of special coding to help Google know what the actual sale price of each transaction is.
(The way you do this coding changes depending on what shopping cart you are using, so I can’t explain it here. But if you want some help with that, come to our next Open Coaching Call, which is coming up this week.)
But let’s say, for the moment, that you only sell a single ebook for $47. You’d just enter 47 into the conversion tracker, and then Google will give you the “code” to put on your website.
This code goes on your “Thank You” page — the page someone sees when they have completed your sale. And it’s a simple “cut and paste,” so you shouldn’t need any technical help to do this.
Anyway, once you’ve got this code on your site, the magic can begin.
From here on out, Google will not only track all your clicks, your Click Through Rate, your Cost Per Click, and lots of other good stuff, but they’ll also calculate for you your “Cost per Conversion”.
On the main Adgroup screen, you’ll see all this information. So if you know that a sale is worth $47, but you see that your “Cost Per Conversion” is just $20, then you’re making $27 on each sale.
If each product sells for a different price, or if you’d like to see even more data, click on the Reports tab in your Adwords account. Create a “conversion report” and select all of the fields in the “conversion” section of the fields list.
Google will tell you exactly how much you are spending for each sale, and how much you are making on each sale.
The difference is your gross profit. And the bigger the difference, the bigger the profit!
Do you know of another internet system that will tell you everything so easily and accurately?
I doubt it, and that’s just another reason why smart marketers love Google Adwords.
Now, last week we did a live demonstration of setting up a Google Adwords account. We spent a lot of time understand the customer and selecting keywords. Then we put the Adwords account together.
If you’ve got any questions about what we did or how we did it, or if you’d like some help setting up your Adwords account, or have any questions about Adwords conversion tracking, or any other part of Adwords, then join us for this week’s Open Coaching Call.

Kaycee, any idea what the most valuable thing you can do with a coach?
How about “talk to him!”
And that’s what next week’s Coaching Club webinar is all about. It’s a Personal Coaching Call. If you went to a University, you can think of it as the Professor’s Office Hours.
But in the context of Internet Marketing, it’s coaching time worth that could potentially cost you hundreds of dollars…except that it’s included as part of your membership.
Oh, and it’s time could result in a business that makes Hundreds or Thousands of dollars more in a year, month, or week.
All you have to do is show up and ask your question. Your BEST question.
Now…we’re doing something a bit different this time, because you don’t usually get paid to ask a question.
But check this out:
If you submit your question on the “Ask Mark” form on the Member’s page …and your question is selected to be answered on the call, …and you are actually ON the call and able to participate with Mark live on the call, …you’ll win 500 TrafficSwarm credits instantly.
In fact, the best three questions submitted, answered, and discussed on the call will win 500 credits.
So don’t be bashful. Instead, be selfish. Pretend like your own question is the most important question among the hundreds of members of the club.
Because it probably is.
See you on the call this Thursday at Noon PDT, 3pm EDT?
