Creating Valuable Bonuses on a Shoestring Budget

People don’t change, and as much as we’re all different, we’re also all the same in some very significant ways.

Let’s just assume for a moment that you’re no longer 7 years old — probably good odds of that. But do you remember when you were just 7?

Remember going shopping with Mom once in a while? Put yourself there, for just a moment. As you walked alongside her cart — or rode inside the cart in the part where all the food goes — down the cereal aisle, what always caught your eye was that big Special Offer ad on the front of that less-than-healthy sugary cereal.

What was your favorite? The free decoder ring? The decals? The stickers? The toy?

How badly did you want it? What kind of a fit did you have when Mom told you that the cereal that YOU wanted wasn’t coming home with you. After all, you already had two boxes at home — that mom bought when there was a different gift inside.

Mom really didn’t want to buy that box of cereal for you, even though she knew you wanted it. (I’m sure she’d have made a different decision if the free gift inside were something that appealed to her taste rather than yours.)

But I bet you can imagine some free gifts that she would respond to. My own mother, bless her heart, couldn’t pass up a good bargain. She once bought a stack of 100 blank DVD+R disks at Costco because if she bought one stack, she’d get a second stack free.

Funny thing was, she didn’t have a DVD+R burner.

The deal was so good, she had to take advantage of the special offer.

The point of all of this is that people — just about everyone in fact — find it very hard to pass up a good offer. That offer commonly features a discounted price, but also might feature the inclusion of special additional products or services.

In other words, a Bonus.

Bonuses are extremely powerful motivators. And when combined with other marketing strategies, bonuses can cause people to overcome the apprehension they have about purchasing your product or service.
And, if your product or service is truly a good thing, then it’s a good thing to help them make the right decision.

Your bonuses just need to be something that will be attractive to your target market.
